Gail M. Pesyna and A. Frank Mayadas, Program Directors The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation’s Industry Studies program was founded in 1990 on the belief that industries are sufficiently different from one another that they individually deserve rigorous and deep academic study grounded in direct observation. The primary missions of this Program are to encourage research cooperation between academics and industry, and to support the integration of observation-based research with appropriate theory and analysis among a growing community of industry studies scholars. The Program currently includes twenty-six Sloan Industry Centers as well as nearly one-thousand affiliated faculty members and researchers (Industry Studies Affiliates) working in many other university and scholarly settings. Dynamic opportunities for information-sharing across and within industries are provided through the Industry Studies Annual Conference, activities at the Industry Centers, Workshops, a Working Paper Series, and through other small grants. Details can be found by clicking on the link below. In addition, excellence in industry studies research is recognized annually in several ways, through prestigious Sloan Industry Studies Fellowships, Best Book and Best Paper prizes, and a Dissertation Award.
